From basic to advanced!

Welcome to Classic Astrophotography!
Astrophotography is the art of photographing the sky above, bringing faint objects of the cosmos to life, and showing just how beautiful our universe is. There are many scienfific reasons to do this, but like many others, I do it for the sheer pleasure of seeing where we live, and witnessing first hand how we came to be.

Here you will find details of Classic Film Astrophotography, the photographing of deep sky objects of the universe using conventional film and ordinary film cameras. You will find instruction, equipment details, a gallery of my photos, lots of amateur astronomy website links, and a mini astronomy bookstore!

I would love to hear your comments, and would be happy to help any budding amature astronomer who wants to learn how to take stunning deep sky astro photos with ordinary film.

What other's have said about my tutorial...

  • In a word - perfect. That's one of the clearest explainations I've ever seen on the how and why of drift alignment (and, no - I'm not generally prone to hyperbole; it is that good).
  • Simply the best tutorial or topic I've ever read about drift polar
    alignment.
  • That is MADdeningly clear. It's the first tutorial I've read where I instantly was 100% sure what I had to do differently with my newtonian.
  • Simply the best tutorial or topic I've ever read about drift polar
    alignment.
  • Nice! Finally I can understand the logic of drift alignment without going MAD! Thanks so much for taking the time to put together such a great tutorial.
